Younger kids · K–2
Drawing counts as building. A pitch can be three sentences. Pair a shy child with the coach for the first two minutes.
Older kids · 3rd+
Add one constraint: it must fit in a backpack, or cost under $5. Constraints make better pitches.
If a kid freezes
“Freeze means your brain is working.” Let the invention “speak” through them, or take a whisper-pitch. The rep matters more than the volume.
Feedback rule
One specific compliment after every pitch: “I liked how you…” Coach models the first. No vague ‘good jobs.’
Parent pickup line
“Ask them to teach YOU the One-Word Story tonight—they’re the experts now. And if your kid did something brave, message me directly. I feature wins in our parents’ community.”
After class: note which kids froze and what unlocked them. Photograph inventions only with parent permission.
